Crawl

We think that tomorrow M will be crawling. A step up from the scooting she has now mastered, M can get up on her knees, her toes, and sometimes works an arm in to move forward.

Rome tried to show her how it is done.

But she has her own way of doing it.

I have photos of her doing this clothed, but these, taken right before bath time, give you the full visual of what she is trying to do. She just needs to get the hands going, and she will be on her way!

Up with the Sun...Literally

This morning we woke up with M before 6:00am! Too early for us, we have all already taken a nap. M also had breakfast, which went a little better than usual. Yesterday, we tried a new strategy: letting her feed herself. Now, she cannot do this with baby food because of its viscosity and because she likes to grab the business-end of the spoon. So, we gave her whole foods.

Banana:

And orange:

Here is a short video of M eating the banana:

We also gave her a pretzel to gum on later in the afternoon. She basically sucked the salt off and then let the wet pretzel bits fall from her mouth to Romeo's hand.

While this seems to be working (no tears!) we are limited by the number of foods that we can give to her--things that are not a choking hazard but that she can hold in her hand. We are thinking pieces of raspberry, broccoli, apple, and basically that is it. So any suggestions are welcome!

A Day in the Life

Each morning, M wakes up to play. But we have to interrupt play time to eat breakfast. Notice the bed head? Her hair is getting long!

We give M something to play with during meal time to keep her occupied, and because once she puts it in her mouth, we can sneak some food in! Here, she is chewing on the lid to her sippy cup.

Each day is filled with lots of playtime. Playtime with Suess:

With Mommy (she wants the camera):

And with boxes. M wants anything new that we bring into the apartment. If she has not seen it before, she wants it.

As you can see from these photos, we also have a lot of outfit changes each day. After each meal, new clothes are needed.

More details to come on our typical days to come...

A Good Day...Or Not?

We went hiking today with Danielle. M loved it, and was laughing and looking at everything. We hiked an hour up, and then headed down. And shortly thereafter, the crying started. I think we were just gone too long and she was hungry. Of course I did not pack a bottle or snacks, so the crying continued. Rookie mistake by this new mom. As frustrating as it was, we will be doing this again, but this time with the right supplies!

Taking the New Toys Out to Play

Today was beautiful, so we took M to Wash Park to go for a jog. But first, we had to stop at the swings:

And then we ran. M looks like she is too small for the stroller in this pic, but really was just lounging. She wanted to sit this way and take it all in.

At home, I put M in the baby backpack for a test-run because tomorrow Danielle and I are taking M up into the mountains to go for a hike.

We had to adjust the shoulder straps, but it looks like it should work well!

New Toys

Yesterday, we bought M some new toys--a jogger and a baby backpack carrier for hiking. (REI might be one of our new places in Denver).

We took the jogging stroller out for a run when Romeo got home from work. But before, M checked it out to make sure it was acceptable :)

Happy Sunday!

I snapped this photo while we were getting ready for church this morning. M was in a great mood, having just enjoyed some banana/apricot/peach baby mash. She was playing with that box lid in the background that is left over from our move.

Most of those boxes went to Andy and Danielle, who are moving to a new home in the Park Hill neighborhood of Denver. After church, we helped with the move--Romeo did the heavy lifting, M and I provided encouragement and support.

Weather in Denver

Romeo had to work today, so Andy and I drove to Loveland Pass to take M for a hike. But there was snow, and the pass was closed. We did see skiers enjoying the fresh power, but also a road closed due to an avalanche.

Meanwhile, back in Denver, the weather was cool but pleasant. When we returned after our scenic drive, we went out for waffles and then Rome played with M.

Now we are starting the evening routine--dinner, bath and bed for M.

Meal Time

We had M's 6 month wellness visit to the pediatrician yesterday. Since we last took her to the doctor at 4 months, expert recommendations on how and when to feed your baby changed. Now, parents are encouraged to feed their babies whatever is for dinner--no slowly introducing foods as we had been--just let her have what's on the table.

So, last night we had Mexican, and gave M refried beans and avocado. The beans were well-received, but the avocado made her dry-heave.

Today, I went to Whole Foods and bought Puffs, a baby food that looks like cereal but is made from fruits and veggies, and  instantly melts in your mouth so there is no need to chew. M likes the sweet potato Puffs, the only kind we have tried so far. That is positive, and we are hoping that this change to more flavorful, diversified foods also changes her appetite for solids.

More Help Around the House

M has been very helpful (see yesterday's post, the shelves). But she has also been helping her Daddy cook, and me do the laundry.

Now, I do have to refold everything, but it is worth it.
