Stuck in the Airport

We missed our flight back to Chicago...I do not want to talk about it. So here we are hanging out on the floor in the Denver airport.

In Denver

We arrived to Denver safe and sound, and a litte sleepy.

Monday Fun-day

Today is President's Day and Romeo spent it home with M. They played all day, but Rome tells me she was still a little out of sorts from her shots. Here she is eying him suspiciously as he takes photos for the blog:

Later in the afternoon, Grandma and Grandpa Hereau came over to play, and took all of us out to dinner at Bricks. I should have brought the camera and taken photos--we had so much fun. Next time I guess, though we are running out of chances to do all of our favorite Chicago things.

A Visit with Nannie

We had a busy weekend, beginning with the arrival of Grandma and Grandpa Schmieder on Friday. They came to Chicago with a car full of empty boxes and packing supplies so we can start packing up our apartment. But we did not start packing yet--instead we spent the weekend visiting and spending time in North Riverside visiting Nannie. Here they are chatting:

After a nice lunch at the Scottish Home, M took a nap in Nannie's arms.

It was a great visit, and we hope to make it back there again before our move to Denver.

14.6 lbs, 25.5 inches

We had M's 4-month check up today, and she has almost doubled her birth weight and grown 5 inches in that short period of time. Even though she also had a round of immunizations at this appointment, here she is playing with Romeo this afternoon:

We are so lucky to have such a happy, healthy baby.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It was in the 50's today here in Chicago, a surprising February treat. I took M for a walk to the conservatory, the zoo and the park. As you can see from the photo, she loved being outside.

New Tricks

We took these photos a few days ago. M started putting her feet in her mouth every chance she could, and I wanted to catch it on camera. Here she goes, caught in the act:

She also can sit up, although not without assistance. Here Romeo is helping her sit:

And here she is trying to stay up.

Books and Belly

We try to read books to M each day, but she prefers to chew rather than turn the pages. I suppose this is typical. Here she is today with her little library behind her.

She is just in her diaper because she likes to roll from her back to belly on her changing table. So, after I change her diaper, I set her on the floor to put on her clothes. And then she rolls away from me :)

Raspberries

In an earlier post, I promised to get a video of Marie attacking her Suess doll. This is not it, unfortunately. I was trying to capture that, but instead we ended up with a clip of M showing off a new talent, blowing raspberries. She is doing this here until she realizes I have the camera and stops. Cameras and phones make her stop chatting and playing, limiting my ability to share all of her wonderful noises with you. But, at least we got a few seconds before she realized she was being watched.

At Home with Daddy

I had to work today and so Romeo and Marie had a fun-filled day of grocery shopping, car shopping, and cooking. Rome took a break from all of this activity to take some photos of playtime.

Here she is on her activity mat, a toy she has loved since she was just a few weeks old. And in the bottom photo, which I love, she is really going for it and is about to take a big bite out of the dragonfly.

Staying in on a cold day

I work from home a few days a week, and today was one of those days. We were glad to be in because temps were in the single-digits. While I worked, M played.

Here she is in her exersaucer (am I spelling that correctly?). This is also a good shot of her growing mohawk.

On the Move

A few weeks ago, M started rolling over. She now spends most of her time on her tummy trying to crawl. Her determination is admirable, but crawling is (thankfully) a ways off. Her new-found freedom of movement has caused us some trouble though. Gone are the days where we can leave her playing happily on a blanket or in her crib. In her crib, she rolls over and gets her arms and legs stuck in the slats. As you can see in this picture, she is also trying to escape.

Since bumpers are a suffocation risk, we bought a mesh pad to go around the crib to prevent her from getting stuck between the bars. Thanks Joc and Jenn for registering for this for your little oneI had never seen it before and when I was scoping out what to get your baby, we bought the mesh screen for M. It should be coming in the mail today—let's hope it works!

Pinned.

This is Seuss. Every time M sees him, she shrieks. Sometimes we are not sure if it is love or hate, as she proceeds to tackle the toy, bite and wrestle him to the ground. This WWF-style show is a delight to Rome and I, and we will try to capture it on video so you all can enjoy too.

Clean Baby, Happy Baby

Here is a short video of a happy, chatty M after her bath today. Sorry for the poor video quality, not sure how the video function on the camera works.

Bye Bye Bricks!

There are some things that Denver will be missing besides friends and family...namely, Bricks. So we went to Bricks to celebrate Romeo's new job and to tell our friends behind the bar that we would be leaving Chicago. This was not M's first time to Bricks, she likes it as much as we do. This was pizza day #3 for the Hereau family, by the way.

The Windy City to the Mile-High City

On Wednesday, Romeo was asked by City Year to serve as the Program and Service Director at the new City Year site in Denver, to start as soon as possible. This is an amazing opportunity for Romeo and our family, and a great step in his career path. Rome happily accepted the job offer, and we will be moving to DenverRomeo in a few weeks, Marie and I in April.

We will miss our Chicago friends and family immensely. We hope to have many visitors to our new home, and of course we will be traveling to Chicago and Michigan frequently.

We are happy to have family and friends in ColoradoAndy, Danielle, the Rankin'sand want to thank Andy for rolling out the red carpet and letting Rome stay with him until we get a new place.
